News >>> MPHIA Office Open (April 30-2007)

TheBanff Information Centre has been re-opened and we have resumed MPHIA operations from our office .

News- New MPHIA Database

MPHIA is pleased to announce that we have streamlined our membership information into an on-line database. This will provide us with current and up to date information regarding our members. It will also cut down on our administration time and accounting.

That way we can spend more time guiding!

Our database provides the general public with an up-to-date guide list of all our Professional and Standard/Apprentice Guides. These guides are current MPHIA members in good standing (dues paid). Their names will be shown in the appropriate accreditation area with park locations and group management accreditation.

We also provide a list that includes Basic Course graduates. This list is of people that that taken the course and completed the MPHIA's Basic Course quiz.

Important Announcements @ MPHIA

Have you taken the Group Management course yet?

Parks Canada is actively enforcing its interpretive licensing requirements. All accredited professional and standard/apprentice guides who lead guided hikes and have not taken the 1-day Group Management course (or equivalent) are encouraged to do so. Space in the Group Management courses is more limited than other courses, so it is necessary to sign up early to ensure you have a spot in the course.

New Courses @ MPHIA

Group Management and Public Safety Training Course

Parks Canada recognizes that objective risks are lower for guides with Interpretive Day Hiking Licenses than for ACMG guides with Day Hiking/Backing Licenses, as they are not licensed to travel in as dangerous or as remote terrain.

Therefore only the elements of Group and Risk Management relevant to Interpretive Day Hiking guides have been abstracted from the ACMG Day Hiking/Backing standards. Go to Group Management page for the next course available.

Basic Course- Now available in Revelstoke and Waterton!

MPHIA is pleased to offer basic courses in Revelstoke and Waterton in addition to the courses already offered in Banff and Jasper. Please go check the basic course page for the next course date.

Don't have time to take the basic course class? MPHIA is proud to present it's new online basic courses for Banff and Jasper.
