MPHIA: Group Management CourseOverview of Group Management Course As interpretive guides, we
are responsible for the safety and well-being of the people we are guiding. Learning about proper pacing, risk management, trip preparation and group management can help make the experience more enjoyable for clients as well as for the guides themselves. The group management course will be required of all Professional interpreters and guides taking the Standard course who do not have their ACMG hiking and/or backpacking accreditations. This course has an indoor and outdoor component. Each component is approximately ½ day. All course participants should be prepared for the outdoor conditions on the day of the course with appropriate clothing and footwear for hiking or snowshoeing! Note: Equivalencies are available for guides who have completed a minimum 8hr training course in risk management and public safety in mountain environments offered by a recognized educational institution. Guides must submit copies of official documents (transcripts, diplomas, degrees) to MPHIA to be granted equivalency. At the present time, equivalency has been granted to ACMG accredited guides, graduates of Mt. Royal College's Eco tourism and Outdoor Leadership degree program, University of Calgary's Outdoor Pursuits Program, Colorado Outward Bound semester course, New Caledonia's Northern Outdoor Recreation and Eco tourism diploma.
