information) The Basic course is a 4 hour overview of the heritage of the mountain national parks and the guide’s role in protecting and presenting that heritage. At the present time, there is no test or exam during this course. There are 4 versions of this course that focus on the different geographic regions represented by the Mountain National parks:
Upon completion of the full course, participants will obtain a BASIC certificate, valid for as long as the guide remains active within the mountain national parks. A 1-hour Park Issues update (and/or equivalent in video, print or electronic format) will be made available annually by Parks Canada, for all guides certified at the Basic, Standard or Enhanced level (date: TBA). This course is designed for those who are relatively new to interpretive guiding, more experienced guides are strongly encouraged to take either the Standard/Apprentice course or the Professional Interpreter course.
